FSSAI  Says ‘No to handmade varakh’
After circulation of information regarding unhygienic processed Silver varak, FSSAI department come with strict regulatory action. Now consumer of delighting Indian sweets can be assured that they are having purest and vegetarian silver leaves.
FSSAI (Food & Safety authority of India ) has come up with change in standards of Edible Silver & Gold Leaves. General and old method of producing leaves was hammering piece of silver or gold in middle of intestines of animals. This traditional method is banned and its impact on market can be seen widely.
The FSSAI has standardized thickness, weight and purity of the silver leaf. Now silver leaves cannot be produced in unhygienic environment and by using any animal part’s medium.
“To regulate the industry which has so far been dominated by the unorganized sector, the food regulator has made it clear that under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, relating to other food and ingredients, ‘no material of animal origin shall be used at any stage of manufacture of the silver leaf,” said sources in the Authority.
During talk with KV Automation founder Mr Tara Shankar Singh, who is widely known for developing process of Vegetarian and automatic process of Silver Leaves or Chandi Varak, discussed that “This move of FSSAI will boom market as many of consumers were avoiding Varakh due to uncertainty of standards of leaves production method, will now turn with assurance of vegetarian and purity standards. In market there are thousand of traders, those were dependent over handmade labors, now positively turning and querying for Silver leaves Production plant and desiring to adopt vegetarian leaves.”
